Description
Jacobsen Greensking TEE/COLLAR 526A Applications: Home owner Yards especially with Zoysia's and Hybrid bermuda grasses (ask why if you need to?) Baseball Infiled Mower Large lawns, commercial Landscape companies that really want to stand out Smaller Driving Range Tees or Practice areas Crouquet Fields Grass Tennis Courts Remote Control Landing Strips This mower provides a 26 inch width of cut, it was originally designed for Tees and Collars to help save time and labor cost for those courses that walk mow these areas that had been using 22 inch mowers. It is also used for baseball infields, This is the exact same mower used on the Texas Rangers infield and other major league baseball fields. For a home owner with a big yard it will take you less time than a 22 inch mower to cut with. This is a 7 bladed reel mower that will provide an exceptional cut from ¼ inch all the way to 1 ¼. To give you an idea of cutting heights I have listed the following examples: 9 or 11 blade reel avaiable for additional 200.00 I will change it out for free you pay for the new part. If you never cut below 3/8 or .375 of a inch then a 7 blade reel will be just fine, It will actually out perform a more numbered blade at 3/4 and higher. GOLF COURSE GREENS .125 OR 1/8TH INCH. GOLF COURSE FAIRWAYS, TEES, AND COLLARES 3/8 – ¾ INCH GOLF COURSE ROUGHS 1.0 INCH TO 3 INCHES BASEBALL PARKS ½ - ¾ OF AN INCH POLLO FIELDS ½ - ¾ OF AN INCH CROQUET FIELDS ¼ INCH OR LOWER SOCCER COMPLEXES 3/8 – 3/4 This mower is setup to cut from 1/2 of a inch to 1 1/4 if you want to cut lower I will include the shorter greens roller brackets at no charge to cut from 1/4 to 5/8. Here is a list of the new parts and labor performed: Over $2000.00 invested in my time and new parts used to make this mower look and opperate brand new. WHAT WILL END UP HAPPENING IS STRIPPED THREADS OR A BROKEN ADJUSTER DID I MENTION THAT I APPLY ANTI-SEZE TO ALL THREADS, I ALL WAYS SIGH WHEN A NEW CUSTOMER BRINGS ME STUFF TO WORK ON FOR THE FIRST TIME, BECAUSE 95% OF THE TIME ITS NOT BE TAKEN CARE OF PROPPERLY AND ITS GOING TO BE A PAIN IN THE ASS TO WORK ON. YOU END UP WASTING TIME IN THE LONG RUN BY OMITTING THESE LITTLE STEPS, YES IT TAKES A LITTLE TIME TO CLEAN, RETAP, AND APPLY ANTI-SEIZE, BUT I KNOW NEXT TIME I WORK ON IT WILL BE A BREEZE TO FIX. · This unit has new HONDA GX120 ENGINE real jacobsen orange not red and white or a clone · The reel has 95% plus reel life, I usually put new reels in but it would be a waste of money to do so. · Mower comes with a 2 years of free sharpening or 2 times · Mower has a 2 year free labor repair guarantee, I’ll fix it for free even if you run the bedknife or reel into a curb, you must pay for any parts needed, if a belt breaks I’ll fix that wear item to, you just pay for the belt. Let’s see a dealer or eBay seller match that. (All you need to do is bring the mower to me, or ship it to me, you are responsible for any costs related to getting the mower to and from me.) · The bedknife is brand new · Front roller will be a new grooved roller or rebuit painted one · Comes with grass basket Please call me or email me with any questions that you might have and check out my web address for a list of creditable references, resume, Bio, and other interesting facts: metcalfj@verizon.net 817 602 6794 http://mysite.verizon.net/metcalfj/id7.html I get quite a few questions about TORO’s and John Deere’s They all cut evenly, but when it comes to maintenance and adjustments the Jacobsen 518, 522, 526 series are far easier to work on, plus Jacobsen ¼ thick side frames that are machined aluminum they are far more superior than 1/8 steel that’s pressed formed side frames, found on TORO, and McLane and other companies. After a year or 2 the Toro and JD end up rusting when the paint chips. When rust sets in no amount of paint is going to fix pitting, also there is a greater chance or rusted broken off bolts in steal, and that there are no V- belts clutch systems that slip or constantly need adjusting. This is why I prefer Jacobsen to the others. Please visit my website for informational purposes only not to try and under sell eBay yes there is stuff for sale on site but its for information only, anything on the site your interested in can be listed on eBay for you to purchase. Use my site for reel mower theory, growing grass, chemicals, rebuilding process ect…. I been told it’s very informative! Remember these mowers sell for $9000.00 new, There are several used units at my local Jacobsen dealer like this one selling fot twice as much in unlnow condition. Since this is a 526A and all the vital parts have been replaced its as every bit if not more realibale any other sellers 526A, or a used one off a show room floor." Luber Bros. Dallas has this same model for $5400.00, no new belts, no new bearings, no new engine, not taken apart and inspected, just a reel and bedknife sharpened" (and not sharpened correctly for that matter, no releif) Remember I have the training to diagnosis and repair these machines properly and the know how to set them up to mow properly. I can give a 200.00 cash discount with the proper payment method Like CASH or a check that does not need to be deposited..., otherwise the eBay listing Fees and Paypal fees are included in the price.. FYI: 526's are very hard to come by, I have one 526A they sell at market price, most sells are from business and not individuals so I stick frim with pricing with these. If you want a great yard and do not have a lot of time this is for you, its wider cut will get the job done quicker, plus its a little heavier so the stripping apperance really stands out! 518's are hard for me to get rid of becasue of the width of cut, but I see that most McLanes are 18 or 20 inches so this would be a good upgrade and perfect fo a smaller or avg. yard or green that wants to have the best turf in the neighboor hood . I have a SALE! on these for $1050.00 totally rebuilt, with basket... Few with groomers for Start at $1400.00 about 20 in stock, retail on these new $8000.00 remember a grooomer option cost 1800.00 alone for any sized groomer kit for the 500s seiries. 522 Most comon becasue of width and price, easy to get rid I have several listed, about 10 instock. Most commonly used on greens, most courses convert them to back up greens mowers or tee mowers when they get a new fleet every 5 years or so. Market flooded with these but hold value good. They sale for 1200.00 to 2800.00. Call wit hany questions 817 602 6794 The shipping calculator is way off! Its best to call Gwen Rice at 1-800-323-5441 ext. 1372 She has shipped over 200 mowers for me in the past 5 years. She will offer a first time shipping discount as well, but only she can offer the discount becuase she is in a diffrent department than a regular JOE that will pick up the incomming call. Shipping to GA, Fl, S.C., CA. and AZ has been around $115.00 picking up at a terminal, all you do is go to the terminal and a forklift will put the mower in back of the truck. You will pay her/freightquote for shipping usually with a C.C. I will be sent a B.O.L. I then take the mower to the freight company, when it hits the terminal near you, you will be given a phone call for pickup directions and times. Its that easy, or you can pay around $180-$350 and have it delivered to your door. Personally I would save the money and pickup my self. I'm not sure why the deliver fee goes up, its probably becasue they have to put it on a delivery truck with a liftgate and pallet jack, also they have to fool around with trying to see when a customer will be home. Visit website for a list of crediable references and other detailed information about mowers, growing grass, or reel sharpening theory. http://mysite.verizon.net/metcalfj/id7.html FYI INFO From my other listings, Most of it pertains to this mower some does not All the models of the Jac are the identicle except width and number of blades: Let me introduce myself and who I am. I have been the Shop Manager/Head Mechanic at Las Colinas for over13 years. I attend Jacobsen tech school every year on Reel Sharpening Theory, Walk behind Greens Mower Repair, and Hydraulically Driven Reel Mower Repair. I have taken care of this exact same model in my own fleet since 1995 these truly are commercial/extended life mowers compared to the P.O.S. (McLane, Sears, Scotts, Brill, Tru-Cut), and any other company that does not use tapered, adjustable or greaseable bearings in the unit, rollers, and tournament style bed knifes. If you plan on building a green do not even waste your time on the McLanes or other junk mowers I listed. The home owner versions or even the so called commercial Tru Cuts and McLanes will only last about 3 years, and they will never cut evenly or low enough to cut a green. This is because they only have a adjustment that lowers the front wheels or if your lucky you may find one with a roller, that lowers in pre-selected notches, true professional mowers allow you to adjust each side of the roller to parallel with the bedknife, this is the only way you can obtain a even cut along with the reel and bedknife. Also the Jacobsen mowers are completely rebuildable over and over, if it comes to that meaning (you neglected to grease it every year) it uses standard LM11910 Races, and LM11949 Timken Bearings in both ends of the reel and in the Axel housings, also the seals are over the counter as well(National, CR, which ever brand you like). This mower is ready to use with no surprises. I have sharpened the reel, changed all the bearings, seals, belts, clutch bearing, and put on a new bedknife. The reel has plenty of life left(about 90%), a good 10-15 years or more depending on who sharpens it for you and how much top dressing is done. The carburetor has been cleaned, the gas tank has been cleaned, the oil has been drained (Shipping Laws), the air filter and spark plug are new. This mower should last 30 years or more if taken care of properly. How do I figure 30 years of life out of these machines. FOR EXAMPLE: Our fleet of 5 are still going strong since 1995, we use our mowers 7 days a week, on a total of 6 greens a day or 3 hrs of run time per each machine per day (our average green size is 9000 sqft., we have the largest greens in the area) Compared to a normal home owner that might buy this mower in order to have the ultimate yard or have a BAD AZZ putting green in the back yard and be the envy of the neighborhood will probably only use it 1- 2 times a week for less than 30 minutes or so on his yard or green and that the area of use will probably be no larger that 1800 sqft. Do the math and this is how I determine that the mower is good for 30 years to a home owner or driving range, taking care of a smaller area. If you are considering a putting green in your back yard you would probably only be cutting every other day for 10 minutes or so. I use this exact same model on my yard. During the growing months, I get why my yard looks so good. Here’s Why! If you never had a reel mower then be prepared to have the ultimate yard. Reel mowers cut the grass in ways that promotes healthier grass unlike a rotary mower that pulls and tears the leaf blade. Reel mowers allow the grass to become tighter and grow more closely together giving it that carpet appearance. When you see ball fields, golf course, or grass tennis courts and the grass looks artificial that is achieved by a reel mower that rides on rollers not the superintendent, yes it helps to know how to grow grass but it is the mower that is giving the grass that carpet look. Remember when I told you that McLane, Sears, and Scotts are P.O.S.’s THEY ARE!, these mowers ride on wheels not rollers. Professional mowers use rollers (the front roller used to adjust height and the larger rear roller is for traction and rolling (driving the unit) and compaction) the roller is constantly compacting and smoothing the ground making your yard or putting surface smooth. With out these rollers you could never cut grass below a ½ inch with any kind of quality. Let me ask you one question; have you ever watched Wimbledon, Golf Tournaments, Soccer, NASCAR or FOOTBALL. If you have you’re probably wondering how the grass got those stripes. The stripes are made from cutting the grass with reel mowers that have rollers. If you have a cool season grass like RYE, POA, FESCUE, or BENT then a reel mower is a must and one that has roller is a plus the grass will lay down immediately and look unbelievable. If you have BERMUDA, 419, 328, Tiff, Tiff Dwarf, Tiff way, Champions, or any strain of Zoysia grass this mower is a definite must, You can mainly tell during the summer months on the 419 yards, the grass is just to dense to cut with a rotary, you can tell this from the scalped look left in the grass after you cut from the rotary blade. Bermuda and Zoysia grasses will also stripe but you need to mow a couple of times the same direction for the lines to get burned in. Once you have a direction burned in cut the next time perpendicular to give your yard that checkered board look. If you are planning to make a putting green in your back yard for you and your buddies this mower is an absolute must. Only a reel mower with rollers can create an absolute true putting surface. Plus as I stated earlier this mower has the capability of cutting 1/8 of an inch or .125 in decimal form or lower. Most Professional tournaments cut the greens at 1/8 to increase green speed, and during the rest of the year they cut at .150 -.160 or around 5/32 or 9/64 to handle the numerous rounds of play. Useful information: In case you’re not sure of what one of these mowers are worth, They sell for $2000.00 used in this condition and $9500.00 new with a groomer. Yes you can find cheaper units than this but you’re asking for trouble! Read on: If you cheap out and don’t buy my Reel Mower make sure the one you do purchase passes these tests: · Sharpened reel NOT BACKLAPPED!!! · Reel not to badly worn or bent blades (will not be able to re-sharpen correctly and bedknife will not adjust right if reel is to worn · Reel turns smoothly all the way around with the same constant drag (could be a sign of a bad bearing or bad seal if reel is hard to turn or doesn’t turn smooth) · Bedknife is new(believe it or not the bedknife does most of the work, It is getting hit buy the reel 7,9, or 11 times depending on the number of blades it has per seconds so it sees most of the wear) · Front roller turns smooth and easily with no play or grease leaking from seals(again could be a sign of a bad bearing) · Engine is a Honda GX-120,160, ect… industrial engine (don’t need to say anymore about this engine it is awesome 10 years plus on my fleet! With nothing other than oil, spark plug, and filter service) · Drive belts or chains are in good working order and recently replaced. · Clutch is in good working order, shafts not worn or bearing dried out bearings are Impossible to inspect without any removal of or disassembly Do not take anyone’s word on this with out seeing and inspecting Also the clutch needs to be disassembled every 2 years and properly greased, there a small needle that needs attention, for a home owner you probably can go 5 or 6 years. To have a reel sharpen usually cost 150.00, and to back lap a reel cost 75.00 so make sure that the reel has a good sharp edge to it, one way to test this is by placing newspaper between the reel and bedknife and turning the reel, it should cut it with no metal to metal contact when it is freshly ground, as the reel become less sharp some contact will be needed to cut paper this way but not grass. If your mower needs a reel it would cost 210.00+ for the part at the dealer, and Labor is 75.00 per hour, they get around 4 hours labor for replacing a reel. They would also charge you for new bearings and seals at the time. Front rollers usually get replaced rather than rebuilt at a repair shop because the cost of labor and parts out weighs the cost of a new one, front rollers sell from 105.00- 175.00. Basically all I’m trying to show you is that there are a lot of people buying used equipment and reselling it for a profit and not truly knowing what kind of shape its in before they resale it. This mower is completely gone through with a sharpened reel, new bedknife, new air filter, and new spark plug. It does not comes with transport wheels, the parts and operator manual will be emailed to your email address, and the grass catcher basket is included. The operator manual tells you how to run it and how to run it safely and properly. FOR EXAMPLE: When I say transport wheels I mean transport wheels they are used to move the mower from the garage to your yard or green. The last mower I sold the goof ball called me and said that the mower wasn’t cutting very low and I asked him if he took off the wheels while he was mowing. “His reply was the wheels come off when you mow” I tried not to laugh but I had to. So from now on I include the Operators manual with parts list, It also tells you when and where to lubricate the grease fittings, oil change, adjusting the reel to bedknife clearance and how to raise and lower the mower to change heights. The Honda engine starts on the first pull and its one of the best engines I have ever seen. In case you’re wondering what’s the worst engine is, It’s the brigs 4-5.5 hp engine usually found on the McLane edger or reel mowers. I have 15 mowers like this one all with the same Honda engine, I have a fleet of 5 Jacobsen PGMs, 5 Jacobsen 422 mowers, and 5 Jacobsen 522 mowers just like this one. Please call me for any questions at: 817 602 6794 or metcalfj@verizon.net I have sold at least 100 mowers like this ranging from $ 1000.00- $3500.00 all left positive feedback. Please check out my website for any other turf equipment needs and some other reel information. http://mysite.verizon.net/metcalfj/id7.html When you buy from me you have your choice of a grooved roller or a solid roller(Except when bying a mower with a groommer it comes grooved). The grooved roller is more aggressive meaning it will cut more grass closely where as the solid roller lays the grass over and cut less grass. Superintendents use the groove roller when the grass is really healthy and growing out of control, they switch to a solid roller when a disease or stress appears to allow the grass to heal so the golfers have bent grass to play on during the months of June, July, and August in the Texas heat. OTHER USEFULL INFORMATION and MOWER SPECS: This mower provides a 18 inch width of cut. It will cut down to .080 thousands of an inch with use of a XXX bedknife, It can also cut as high as 1 ½ inches, with the higher cut brackets *I can include and install for no extra charge*. The mower can be fitted with a turf groomer or vertical mower attachment; a turf groomer is an attachment that fits between the roller and reel. The groomer dethacthes the grass (Thatch is living and dead organic layer that builds up between the living layer of the grass and the soil surface) with blades that are vertical, the blades slice and kick up the thatch into the grass catcher removing it from your lawn or green. The groomer is easily turned on with a twist of a knob, If the groomer is always ran when you cut your lawn or green, You will not have to rent that pesky dethatcher machine any more from the rental store every spring. A groomer kit is a $ 1800.00 option, Please specify if you need groomer bracket from .080 thousands to ½ of a inch, or ½ inch to 1.00 inch. I cut my yard year round at a ½ inch; I lower it to ¼ of an inch in the fall when I over seed with Rye, and I lower it to 3/8 in the spring so that the Rye burns out quicker. Jack Metcalf 817 602 6794 Here is some data on why Jacobsen is the BEST! the science of a superior cut Jacobsen Walking Greens Mowers Reduces Turfgrass Disease by 7x Preliminary Results of Cornell Study Confirm It's Performance that Matters Charlotte, N.C., June 28, 2005 - Jacobsen walking greens mowers outperformed competitors in quality of cut and turfgrass health according to first year results of a three-year independent study conducted at Cornell University. The study appeared in the Cornell University Turfgrass Times published by Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Turfgrass Science Program. The study by Frank Rossi, Ph.D. shows that Jacobsen walking greens mowers provide up to a 25 percent improvement in quality of cut. The study also found that Jacobsen models reduce the incidence of anthracnose to as low as 2.8 percent, while competitive equipment generated up to a 21.7 percent incidence of anthracnose. "This study validates that when it comes to the quality and health of fine turf, the performance of equipment matters," said Ryan Weeks, director of product management. "Long-term turfgrass research will ultimately help us deliver even better products that reduce the incidence of disease and fungal infestation, providing superior conditions." Although the first-year data is complimentary of the Jacobsen equipment, additional seasons of observations will provide more definitive results and help the industry understand why the differences occur. "Neither manufacturers nor turfgrass scientists have established a standard that defines what healthy turf is and, more importantly, what factors under the control of the equipment designers are beneficial or harmful to the plant," said Dr. Milt Engelke, Ph.D., professor and faculty fellow at Texas A&M University, and agronomist for Jacobsen. "Jacobsen gets behind the science of superior conditions, conducting our own comprehensive research internally. It's a great statement to have our own hypothesis validated by an unbiased source, but let the study run its course as designed." The unfunded study was initiated by Dr. Rossi, associate professor of turfgrass science at Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. Rossi's findings, the first from the three-year study, were published in the Cornell University Turfgrass Times. The study showed that the performance of greens mowers markedly affects the health and susceptibility of bent grass greens to anthracnose. Rossi tested four mowers from two companies including Jacobsen's TC-22 and Greens King 518. The 2004 study was conducted during an unusually wet year, a situation which makes greens surfaces softer than normal. Organizers feel that these conditions will not affect the data in 2005 or 2006. Rossi notes that even in dry years with more stable green conditions, superintendents are not necessarily able to avoid the stress of close mowing. Their mowing patterns are the result of the golf industry's demand for faster greens. The study aims to measure the impact of lowering cutting heights and cutting more frequently to meet these industry demands. The study also evaluates the effect of mower type on incidence of anthracnose and putting green performance. Not surprisingly, results from the 2004 study showed that more frequent mowing results in higher incidence of disease. As for mower type, Rossi's study showed that the Jacobsen floating head mowers had a significantly lower incidence of anthracnose than the other mowers. Percent incidence of anthracnose Jacobsen floating heads showed only 2.8 percent Jacobsen fixed heads: 6.7 percent Toro floating: 10.6 percent Toro fixed: 21.7 percent Rossi is continuing the study this year and in 2006, adding one additional manufacturer and modifying it to include only solid rollers on the equipment. Jacobsen manufactures a full range of vehicles and turf maintenance equipment for golf, turf, professional lawn care, sports field, municipal and industrial applications. The company markets Bob-Cat®, Brouwer®, Bunton®, Cushman®, Jacobsen®, Ryan® and Steiner™ brand products internationally through an extensive distribution network. Jacobsen is a Textron company.
