It's market value gets higher every year as well. This Cake is from wild tea tree leaves. Aged since 2005,this cake's fine leaves were harvested from oldfully matured trees (800-1000 years old tree) in thefamous Xishuanbanna,Yunnan province. Raw uncooked pu'er teas develop quiteremarkably with age gaining more depth and mellowing their commonly astringent edge. While most suitable of all teas for weight-loss, these leaves also produce an excellent tea-drinking experience for anyone. Note that its current astringent flavormight come across to some as similar to an over-steeped green tea; so please be careful to steep quickly while pouring in the water gently at first. Well, just about everything. The growing conditions of the region, the kind of tea used, and an unusual fermenting process all add up to this very special tea.As with many varities of teas and coffees, Pu-erh is named after the region where it was first harvested. There is a small town in the Yunnan province called Pu-erh, and trade in this type of tea was very heavy there. They harvest the tea from a broad-leaved variety of tea, that is supposedly a very ancient strain of tea. *Health Benefits:All teas have a wide spectrum of health benefits, but Pu-erh has an extra one. Modern medical science has recently shown that the health benefits of Pu-erh tea may be more than just Chinese folklore. Since 1970, scientific studies in China, France and Japan suggest that this tea may help reduce body weight and help reduce cholesterol in the blood stream. By helping digestion (particularly of fatty foods), Pu-erh is the perfect tea after a heavy meal. * More about Pu-erh tea:There are tow forms of Pu-erh Tea....As well as in the form of loose leaves, pu-erh tea is typically bought in hard, dry cakes of compacted tea Loose Pu-erh tea leaves - just like other teas which are consumed shortly after production. Depending on the storing conditions.Compressed Tea cakes/Bing Cha - Pu-erh tea is carefully processed with a type of second fermentation which gives it its unique characteristics. The leaves are pressed together during processing into a variety of shapes. This secret process is credited with creating the health benefits of Pu-erh tea that have been celebrated since the Tang dynasty. Unlike most other teas, Pu-erh is usually purchased in a compressed state rather than loose leaves. Tea cakes are a lot more pricer then loose pu-erh tea and it goes up every year. The leaves are pressed together during processing into a variety of shapes. The 'tea bricks' once used as currency were typically made with Pu-erh tea. You just shave off some tea from the brick or ball, into your teapot. The brewed tea is darkly red, and has a bold, earthy taste. The 'tea bricks' once used as currency were typically made with Pu-erh tea. You just shave off some tea from the brick or ball, into your teapot. The flavor of Pu-erh is often under-appreciated, because it actually gets better with age. Letting it mellow will improve your cup of tea. You can buy very old samples of Pu-erh, but they will cost you. Some aged Pu-erh has been in storage for several years. Think of it as you would to a fine wine. **Brewing Instructions:Preparation Use a dull knife or butter knife to break off a one or two teaspoon-size chunk of tea leaves per cup of water. Infuse in boiling water for approximately 30 second to one minute. Add one minute steeping time for each subsequent brewing. Careful not to over brew this tea.For optimum brewing, use boiling water. Brewing tea is, at its heart, very simple. There are several basic steps: 1. Heat good-tasting water. 2. Add tea (about one tablespoon per cup). 3. Steep for 2 to 3 minutes, taste. 4. Strain and enjoy! 5. Re-steep for more pleasure. There are variations according to the type of tea. Each package of tea that we sell has detailed brewing instructions on the back. As a general rule, please pay attention to the following: Teapot: Choose a teapot, covered cup, or glass, and preheat with hot water. Use a strainer to prevent leaves from entering the cup or spout. Tea: Brew teas loose, not in a small tea ball or infuser. This allows the leaves to open fully and release all their flavor. We use 3 grams of tea for 6 ounces of water. Whole-leaf teas vary in density, so use one teaspoon for compact teas and up to 2 tablespoons for voluminous teas. Water: Start with good-tasting water, such as spring or filtered. Avoid tap water; it may contain chemicals which will affect the taste of the tea. Don't over-boil, as this depletes the oxygen in the water and compromises flavor. Do not use boiling water when brewing white or green teas. This will cook the leaves and destroy their delicate flavor. Suggested Temperatures: White or green teas, well below boiling (170-185 F). Oolongs (185-210 F). Black teas, just off a boil. Pu-erh, full rolling boil (212 F). Steeping Time: Until you are familiar with a particular tea, steep for a minute or two, then try a sip. Pay attention to taste rather than color. When the tea tastes right to you, serve or pour off all the liquid to avoid over-steeping. Most teas are meant to be infused several times. Increase steeping time for subsequent infusions. Experiment: Feel free to experiment with water temperature, brewing time, and proportion of tea to water. Watch the leaves unfurl and savor the aroma. Remember, our guidelines are just that. Enjoy. ShippingPROCESSING TIME: Please allow 1-2 business days for processing your order.
